Rumi by Bukhara

Last month we were invited to Rumi to try out some of the veggie options from their menu.

Honestly, we didn’t really know what to expect, we had heard nothing but good things about Rumi but had always thought of it more of a student haunt given its location and as we are both much closer to 30 than we would care to admit we were unsure if it would be for us.
When we turned up, however, the staff were incredibly friendly and we were pleasantly surprised at the mix of people eating there.  Yes, there were students, but there were also families and couples enjoying their evening meals.

We started with the poppadoms – we’re strong believers that you can tell the quality of the meal that lies ahead by the chutney tray that accompanies the poppadoms…and if this one was anything to go by, we were in for a treat!

When it came to ordering it was very difficult as there was quite a lot to choose from. In the end we decided on
-        Samosa Chaat
-        Onion Bhaji
-        Palak Paneer
-        Aloo Palak
-        Garlic Naan
-        Mushroom Pilau Rice

The restaurants staff were beyond accommodating, painstakingly going through each of the veggie dishes on the menu with us and taking the time to explain which items on the menu could be adapted for a vegan diet if necessary which was much appreciated! There were quite a lot of options that could be changed from veggie to vegan so we would very much recommend for a full veggie vegan meal.

We were completely stuffed after the meal but couldn’t resist taking home a portion of the Gulub Jaman which we have become weirdly obsessed with recently.  Sweet, sticky and delicious - undoubtedly the best we have had in Liverpool so far!

On our way out we noticed the gelato station full of traditional and more contemporary ice-cream flavours, from mint choc chip to salted caramel. This is something we’ve tried before whilst walking past, and although we didn’t have it this time, it’s definitely something we would recommend.

With the rise of Indian restaurants with excellent veggie choices such as, Mowgli and Sanskruti…Rumi is not to be underestimated.  Rumi is unpretentious and unassuming with a very laid back approach to dining but with it’s extremely purse friendly prices and delicious veggie options this is definitely our new takeaway venue of choice.

And when you've been once, tweet a picture of your meal to get 10% off your next visit!
